Dexketoprofen trometamol is the dextrorotary enantiomer of the NSAID ketoprofen formulated as a tromethamine salt. This article describes the pharmacological properties and evaluates the analgesic effects of dexketoprofen trometamol reported in acute and chronic pain conditions. Description

Dexketoprofen trometamol (keral) is a new, quick acting analgesic for the treatment of painful musculoskeletal conditions such as osteo-arthritis and low back pain. It is also used as a treatment for post-operative pain, toothache and dysmenorrhoea. It is the active optical isomer (eutomer) of ketoprofen, a propionic acid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The eutomer has been separated to halve the dosage required and halve the metabolic load. The inactive isomer (distomer) has been discarded in the hope of eliminating or reducing potential unnecessary side effects. It is presented as keral. The tromethamine salt results in the drug being quickly absorbed and thus promotes rapidity of action.

Abstract

Dexketoprofen trometamol is one of the non-steroid anti-inflamatory drugs (NSAID) used as an analgesic. Dexketoprofen drug treatment can lead to various adverse effects as follow: nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, acute kidney injury and neurologic side effects like headache, anxiety and dizziness. A 41 year-old-woman admitted to emergency department with speech disorder and loses her balance continued about two hours after the use of per oral dexketoprofen. The patient who kept under observation in emergency department was discharged about four hours later due to regression of clinical symptoms. We think that this is the first case report of ataxia after the use of per oral dexketoprofen in medical literature.
