Propylene glycol unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin and other important raw materials, this aspect of propylene glycol total consumption of about 45%, so a large number of unsaturated polyester for surface coatings and reinforced plastics. Propylene glycol is viscous, hygroscopic, non-toxic, and is widely used as an absorbent, antifreeze, lubricant and solvent in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. In the food industry, propylene glycol and propylene glycol fatty acids form fatty acid esters, mainly used as food emulsifiers; propylene glycol is a good solvent seasoning and pigment. Propylene glycol is commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry for various types of ointments, solvent creams, softeners and excipients. Propylene glycol and various spices have good miscibility and are therefore also used in cosmetic solvents and softeners. Propylene glycol is also used for tobacco humectants, pharmaceuticals, lubricants, food processing equipment and food labels. Propylene glycol aqueous solution is an effective antifreeze.
Propylene glycol is used in the plastics industry to produce polyester fibers and alkyd resins. It is used as a vehicle antifreeze and engine cooling liquid as well as brake fluid and hydraulic oil in the main components. It is used to prepare body care surfactants. Propylene glycol pharmaceutical grade is used as a non-toxic antifreeze in breweries and dairy products. It is used as a moisturizer in food and cosmetics.
