Benzyl alcohol is an aromatic alcohol having the formula C 6 H 5 CH 2 OH. Benzyl is generally abbreviated as & quot; Bn & quot; (not confused with & quot; Bz & quot; for benzoyl), so benzyl alcohol is represented by BnOH. Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid with a mild aromatic odor. It is a useful solvent due to its polarity, low toxicity and low vapor pressure.
